Last week, after a bad day of work, I skipped off to La Tuna Canyon park (not the Malibu one) in Sun Valley. The weather was clearing, and I hoped to get good views of the city, and maybe the ocean. In the end, I got good views of the city, and maybe saw the ocean (but probably not). Smog wasn't the problem, but just normal haziness. But I did make it to the top of Hostetter fire road, and had some awesome views along the way.
Hiking back in the dark wasn't much fun. I was passed by at least 5 nighttime mountain biking parties, and I wasn't wearing high-viz, reflective clothing, nor carrying a decent light. But overall, I'm glad I went, and would make it a routine if I lived in the area. I'd find it hard to complain, having gargantuan views of the US's second largest city, on a regular basis.
